This week, Waynesboro resident Rory Littleton Sanders, 44, was sentenced to 20 years in prison, which must be served in the custody of the Maryland Department of Corrections, after admitting to sexually abusing a minor in Frederick County over the course of years.

In July 2021, the Frederick County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into Sanders, following a report that was made in Pennsylvania regarding offenses in both states between 2010 and 2014.

Sanders pleaded guilty to forcible rape and three counts of corruption of a minor and began serving a sentence of between 13 and 26 years before being brought back to Maryland to face additional charges.

In July, Sanders pleaded guilty in Frederick County to child sex abuse of a minor and he was sentenced on Monday after it was initially postponed.

The judge ordered that the sentence in Maryland be served after the Pennsylvania prison term, stating that "no reasonable person could justify this behavior."

Frederick County State's Attorney Charlie Smith called the cases "heartbreaking."

"These cases are really heartbreaking because they have a very long lasting effect on the victim," he said in a statement. "Prosecuting these people and sending them to jail is only the beginning of the recovery process for these victims.

"At least we know that he will not hurt them again.”

Once his two consecutive sentences are served, a judge also ordered that Sanders serve five years of supervised probation in Maryland and register as a sexual offender for the rest of his life, while being subjected to lifetime sex offender supervision.
